Sometimes you just need to use disposable plates and utensils - like that 4th of July bbq where you had more guests than real plates. Well you don’t have to feel guilty anymore!
These plates, cups, and bowls are made of compostable sugar cane fiber which is a byproduct of the sugar making process. These are 100% biodegradable and since the byproduct sugar cane fiber is ususally burned to dispose of it, this is a win-win situation.
Reasonably priced and available at Branch.
As a side note, the term “biodegradable” is pretty complex but I guess it’s fancier than “decayable” or “rotable” althought I do think “rotable” kind of rolls of the tongue.

It’s important to point out that while using biodegradable plates and utensils is great, they must be disposed of properly. I believe you need to compost the these types of plates and utensils rather than throwing them in the trash, since they cannot properly break down in a landfill.

Good point Kelly. After researching it seems that it will take about 30 days in a commercial composting facility and 90 days in your backyard compost. I was under the impression that after it gets wet from the food (like the wicked witch of the west) it’d end up crumbling within a few days.

Thanks for posting Kelly…I had just assumed that biodegradeable was the same as landfill-safe. Having to properly dispose of this stuff will probably be too inconvenient for most BBQers…do any towns do compost collection?
