Seatbelt Hammock

This is the third thing I’ve seen made of recycling safetly belts. How can you not feel safe sleeping in a hammock made of safety belts?

Cabinet

This is a really cool piece by Iannone Design. It’s a sideboard/console with a minimimalist appeal and smart design. Only sustainable woods and no toxic chemicals and glues makes this about as ecofriendly as you can get besides just leaving your stuff in a pile on the ground.

Solid Threads

‘Impress the ladies with your eco-conscious sensibilities’.

Hot off the pressed at NJ’s very own Solid Threads is their go green men’s shirt. They use American Apparel shirts as the base for their clever shirts so I was a little disappointed that this shirt wasn’t made with the sustainable line.

I’m going to try to petition them to start a Solid Threads Sustainable Line - it’ll be good for business and you can’t go wrong with 100% cotton.

American Apparel has always been know for how they source their clothes.  Their clothing in made in downtown LA by people making a decent wage - it’s always sweatshop free.  Now they are launching a line of sustainable clothing.  They start with 100% USDA organic cottons which help eliminate pesticides used in the cotton growing process.  Check them out and help support the cause.  I have a sweet Hoboken St. Patty’s day T-shirt made by American Apparel and I’ll tell you, their clothes are 10x more comfortable then the other brands.

Robomow

The concept is simple enough. It’s like an outdoor version of the iRobot vacuum. You bury a line at the perimeter of your yard to keep it in, kind of like a robot dog. It then does it’s thing and mows your lawn with little to no maintenance and returns to it’s base for recharging. There’s no gasoline or motor oil to mess with and if you set it to mow your lawn at 6AM, then you don’t even need an alarm clock! Actually, reading the reviews on Amazon.com, it gets 4 of 5 stars and doesn’t seem to be that loud. For $1,999 it should mow your lawn, skim your pool, and walk your dog.

Tesla Roadster

Tesla Roadster Recharging

Going back to what I was talking about, I’m really excited about these green products that people actually WANT. It’s a fully electric sports car that goes 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and gets 250 miles per charge. It has an electric motor which has instantaneous torque. You know when you’re on the freeway and you need to pass someone, so you put your foot down, your automatic transmission thinks for a little bit, lazily gets into gear, and then you finally accelerate? Well that won’t happen in this car.

Granted, it’s over $100,000, but it has the performance of a $100,000+ conventional sports car. I think Tesla is setting this up as a halo car, with more practical cars coming our way. If you plug it into your electric grid at night, we are talking less than $0.02/mile. My car currently gets 20mpg, at $3.40/gallon, we are talking about $0.17/mile. I know which one I’d pick.

HYmini

Featured at Greener Gadgets 2008, the HYmini is a personal windmill. You can attached it to your bike, your arm, or you can plain blow in it. It generates enough (free) power to charge your iPod, cell phone, PDA, or blackberry.

I’m still undecided whether someone coming down the ski mountain with a HYmini strapped to their arm is a big dork or the coolest person ever. I guess I’ll just hafta wait and see since this company is based out of Taiwan, it’s gonna take a bit to see these on the streets/slopes.

BTW - For all those too young, Linka was one of the planeteers from Captain Planet. She was, of course, wind.

Puma Glow-in-Dark Bike

I think the picture says it all. The coolest part about the bike, besides the glow, is that it is collapsible. I’m sure if raving was still the rage, someone would do some cool raving tricks which riding this thing freehand. It’s coming out this Spring but no word on whether or not it’ll be available at the Puma store next to all the cool shoes and hoodies.

The questions on my mind are:

1. How long does it stay glowing after the sun sets?
2. How can puma charge $1,600 for that thing?
3. Is Kanye gonna ride it on stage on his Glow In The Dark Tour?
4. Will I get beat up for riding that thing around town?

Eclipse Fusion Messenger Bag

We’ve all seen solar powered backpacks but they’ve always had a little bit of a dork factor. The messenger bag brings together style and a larger solar panel for true eco-style.

This should be able to take care of all your gizmos but don’t expect it to help with your MacBook…

Herman Miller

Probably the coolest light I have ever seen. There’s no planned obsolesence here. You’ll want to keep this light forever and since it uses LEDs, which even uses less light than compact flourescent lightbulbs, it’s a no brainer.
